This weekend is Easter weekend and most of us are going to paint eggs, hide eggs to later find them, and hang out with the Easter Bunny. But Easter is so much more than that. It is all about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and how my life is saved because Jesus died for our sins so that we may live with him for eternity. Now I like to listen to songs because I think it has a big influence on our lives, so I found some songs that relate to Easter weekend.
The first one is "Should Have Been Me" by Citizen Way. They got the inspiration for this song when a boy came up to them one day, and said that it should be us hanging on the cross instead of Jesus. A man hanging on the cross next to Jesus said, "We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong." (Luke 23:41) It is so true when the man said that Jesus has done nothing wrong. It is us who sin day after day, and yet Jesus, who never sinned, was the one on the cross dying for our sins. That is why I chose this song because it shows the love that Jesus has, because he took up our cross when he himself did nothing wrong.
The other song I'm going to talk about is "Christ is Risen" by Matt Maher. This song is about the resurrection of Jesus. When the women were looking in Jesus's tomb, and an angel told them "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen." (Matthew 28:5b-6a) Jesus rose from the dead, and when we believe in everything that the gospel tells us, then we to are risen from death in our sins, into eternal life. The person dead in sin no longer exist, but in his place is a person that has eternal light. That is why I chose this song for the resurrection, because it doesn't just talk about Christ resurrection, but it also talks about us coming to life when we place our faith in Jesus.
So as you go about your activities this weekend, take sometime to listen to these two songs, and just reflect on what Jesus has done for you.
